Exercise May Mitigate Health Risks of Heavy Drinking in Young Adults, Study Finds
Aerobic exercise could serve as a counterbalance to the long-term health risks associated with heavy alcohol consumption among young adults, according to new research from Florida State University. The study, presented at the American Physiological Society’s annual conference, reveals that mice engaging in daily exercise while consuming large amounts of alcohol exhibited lifespans comparable to teetotalers, whereas sedentary heavy drinkers faced reduced longevity.
The findings suggest a protective mechanism for vital organs, offering a pragmatic solution for college-aged individuals who drink excessively. Researchers emphasize incorporating regular aerobic activity as a potential lifespan-extending strategy, though the biological mechanisms warrant further investigation.
